A Marriage Proposal

In Matthew 22 people were invited to a wedding. A wedding was a feast, a time of joy. But they fought, beat and murdered in order to avoid a good thing. When people are invited to Christ, many of them believe they are being invited to a bad thing. They behave much the same as the people in Matthew 22.

Matthew 22:2-6: The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.

When Christ invites us to Himself, we are invited to an eternal relationship. We will be more than mere guests. We will be more than guests of honor. When we respond to His invitation we become children of God. When we respond to His loving invitation we have access to His love forever.

Marriage is an earthly picture of the relationship we can have with Christ. A good marriage will have many encounters with one*s mate. Hopefully they are good encounters. Our relationship with Christ ought to consist of many encounters with Him. A marriage without delightful encounters isn*t much of a marriage. A relationship with Christ that doesn*t have delightful encounters with Jesus isn*t much of a relationship either. We may have a wonderful marriage or a lousy marriage. We may have a wonderful relationship with God or we may have a not-so-wonderful relationship with God. What kind do you have?
